About Stafford County
Stafford County, VA is located approximately halfway between the metropolises of Washington, DC and Richmond, VA. The county covers an area of 277 square miles and a full 65% of that land is forested, making it one of the greener areas in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The population of Stafford County is approximately 124,000, not including those stationed at the famed Marine Corps base Quantico, which occupies some 30,000 acres in the northern part of the county.
Founded in 1664, like many of the counties surrounding it, Stafford has strong connections to events that shaped the nation's history. It was in Stafford County , at Marlborough Point , that the Indian Princess Pocahontas was kidnapped and transported to Jamestown.
Another even more significant historical figure once called Stafford his home as well. Stafford County's prosperous and growing iron industry attracted one Augustine Washington, with the rest of his family, including a six-year-old son called George, to Ferry Farm. The future first president of the United States spent his formative years there. Visitors still flock to tour Ferry Farms today.
Many of those who live in Stafford County commute to one of the larger cities to work but a number of Fortune 500 companies do have facilities within the county itself. A new airport, the Stafford Regional Airport, opened in 2001, bringing new oppo4rtunities for even further business development.
The average selling price for Stafford, VA homes is currently around $200,000, but there are Stafford County homes for sale for as little as $75,000 ranging all the way to majestic historical estate homes that command over $3,000,000. The Stafford County real estate stock is very varied one.
